I really think you will enjoy the experience. The only complaint I would have is that some of the dishes were being served at a temperature that was to low for my taste. I enjoy tasting samples of each item then going back for more on the ones I liked best making sure to save room for the wonderful deserts. We have tried the European and the Student Practicals and both have been excellent. The themes are: American Regional, European (French, German and Italian), South American & Latin American, Asian and Student Practicals that are a of the different themes. Each week has a different theme so check the web site to to match your interest in the food to be served so again check the web site. The schedule of the students and staff makes it necessity to make sure they are serving on the week you plan to attend so check the web site. seating begins at 5:30 and the second seating is at 7:00. The dinner buffet is generally served on Thursday and Friday with two seatings. We have all found it to be wonderful experience. My wife and I have been to American Harvest dinner buffet a couple of times with a different couple each time. So there are a few bugs to work out but this IS a training facility for Schoolcraft College so we can forgive a few mistakes. Hadn't even finished coffee when we were told they were closing for the afternoon. We had long finsihed dessert when the final cup arrived. Our server (who was VERY pleasant) had to keep running back to the kitchen to grind more beans. The "brewed at the table" coffee was a disaster. We tried the rice pudding and, while the flavor was decent, it was very watery. Desserts are laid out on a counter for customers to peruse and they all looked lovely. That would be okay if the menu was posted in advance online but we couldn't find it anywhere. to choose from and for those of us who don't eat mammals the choices are limited. The artic char was perfectly cooked and arrived in a timely manner. It was my third visit and I can safely say that the food is quite good. The American Harvest Restaurant is a great way for the culinary arts students at Schoolcraft to practice what they learn and it appears the community supports their efforts, judging by the difficulty in getting reservations. We finished off with two desserts, a chocolate mousse cake and a delicious flan which was a work of art (see photo). We had a chicken jumbalaya dish which contained one leg and one wing and small bits of shrimp. The seafood chowder was not very good, a cream based soup with lots of chunks of fish and not much flavor. We had the house salad with walnut vinaigrette which was very good and interesting, it contained pickled beets and some other root veggie. there were only four of them, none of them seafood which I almost always get. We were a bit disappointed in the lunch entrees however. As you proceed to your table you pass the dessert counter with its many impressive offerings. The dining room is very attractive and has a pleasant ambiance.
